Principles of Life

Treat others as you want to be treated.

If there isn't one thing I've learned in this life, it's "Treat others as you want to be treated." This simple life principle can go a long way. This is the difference between people that soar to the heavens and those that stay mediocre.

Fine example:

  • A customer just came to the complain and gripe about service. He was told he could pay when he checked out as long as there was a card on file. Today, my GM charged this customer because the management company said that they "did not have any money" and he needed to pay his bill. He stay was for 4 days. This man came to me (smile on my face; angry eyebrows on his) and said she charged my card. The money cleared the bank, but I specifically told her I would pay at check out because I'm a government employee and wasn't sure if the work would be completed in time. I told her regardless I would pay on the scheduled check out day because I need the receipt to give to the state so they can reimburse me. I was not supposed to be charged with my personal account. I have to come back in 3 weeks and because she was so rude and did not even notify me of the transaction. i'm not coming back and I'm suggesting that this place is taken off of the recommended places to go to. Then on top of that he says the lady hung up in his face.
I listened, apologized, told him that this practice was out of the ordinary and gave him a receipt showing what was charged. Angry eyebrows went away.

Treat others as you want to be treated. When you are rude you get negativity in return. Be nice. it's really that simple.

“I Want to Make a Ton of Money.”

Photo Courtsey: Van Smith - blogs.citypaper.com

Do you want a ton of money? Does this desire for more money equal happiness? Does the thought of a ton of money bring countless opportunities? Wanting a ton of money does not make the dream a reality. It makes the work extremely hard, frustrating and even a daunting task.

Going farther on the subject, how hard does one have to work to get a “ton” of money? Like, a physical ton of money.
According to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, all paper bills weigh the same: 1 gram. Therefore, about 454 grams make 1 pound, which means that a ton of:

1 dollar bills would be worth $908,000 (full time) 2080hr/yr $436.50/hr

dollar bills would be worth $181,600

5 dollar bills
would be worth $4,540,000

10 dollar bills
 would be worth $9,080,000

20 dollar bills
would be worth $18,160,000

50 dollar bills would be worth $45,400,000

100 dollar bills
 would be worth $90,800,000

… and so on and so forth ….

So, do you want a ton of money? If you do, you need to have a plan and a goal. A “ton of money" is completely attainable.  The plan and a goal are crucial to making the dream happen. Stop treating new opportunities as though they are the “Next Big Thing”. Because chances are it’s like buying a lottery ticket. And as much as we want to believe you’ve won… it’s always an old lady in Florida with 76 cats.

At the end of the day, you need to be an entrepreneur. You need to be a person who manages, organizes, takes S.M.A.R.T. risks and initiatives to get your “ton” of money. I say NEED because it is a MUST. There is no way you can make the ideal ton of money by working for someone else 40 – 60 hrs a week, unless you are the “Wolf of Wall Street”. (And he actually stole majority of his profits, btw.)

Focus on a product or service that will move you forward. Find something you are passionate about; something that can directly push you to achieving a specific goal. In doing this you can create your own wealth. You can build, or become an extension of a successful business. There is no get rich quick scheme. Chasing the money also doesn’t work. Get a firm foundation, strong principles, keep educating yourself, a plan, some goals and apply the knowledge.

Happy planning, in your quest for a “ton of money”!

Dear Algebra, Stop asking me to find 'x'. It is not coming back, and don't ask 'y'.

During my 20+ years, the word 'why' had been nothing more than a response for nouns, sometimes proper, that wanted me to do something for them. It didn't matter if the purpose was for my benefit or not; 'why' was the act of no. When I said why, it was just the nice way to protest with out looking like a rebel.

Not long ago, I was invited to supplement my income with a stay-at-home, work as you please business venture. Being a mother of two, with two jobs, and too many bills my old friend 'why' was nowhere to be found. I thought things were looking up!

As I began putting together my business plan, sales projections and life goals, I found myself stuck. Why? I couldn't figure out how this was going to fit in my schedule or when. I didn't know what risks were involved, nor did I know who this business was really benefiting. Well after a few days of who, what, when and how, I felt 'why' peaking around the corner. I hadn't even looked up, and there 'why' was, tempting me to indulge in its meaning.

As much as I tried to avoid 'why', I couldn't. My initial approach to the familiar word was anger. I was enraged that this business might not work. I was discouraged at the fact that I had to admit I was inadequate. Me, inadequate, all because of a stinking 'why'.
The turn around came when I faced my fears and asked, what my 'why' was. "What was my why?" Well, my why was the main purpose for starting this venture. Bingo! My why was more time with my kids and family, a source of income that would not define me as a workaholic and the financial benefits from advocacy; that was 'why'.

In the beginning, I didn't see 'why'. In fact, I purposely put 'why' in the back of my mind. I knew 'why' as the rebellious, pessimistic action of no. And I did not want to say no to this opportunity. Then, once I resolved my negative connotations with 'why', I saw the possibilities of why.

When I look ahead at this new calendar year, all I see is why. Things I want to accomplish, experiences I want to have and time that can never be regained are my 'why'. I have now come to know why as the ambitious way to support while looking like a rebel.

What is your 'why'? I encourage you to ask yourself.
